FanJolt Partners with Cav Futures

Partnership will Capitalize on NIL for University of Virginia Student-Athletes

NEW YORK, NY & CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (APRIL 25, 2022) – FanJolt, a new experiential platform creating memorable interactions between fans and a curated list of premier talent to support their favorite causes, and Cav Futures, a Virginia non-stock corporation providing an inclusive marketplace for University of Virginia athletes to capitalize on their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), have partnered to develop the app’s channel dedicated to college student-athletes. Cav Futures is the first national NIL collective to join the FanJolt platform.

FanJolt and Cav Futures will create opportunities for student-athletes to connect directly with fans through live broadcasts, personalized messages, recorded videos and more to capitalize on their NIL. Philanthropy is an important aspect of FanJolt, which aligns with the Cav Futures mission to help promote student athletes' focus on community and social activism. Cavaliers Quarterback Brennan Armstrong and do-it-all ‘Football Player’ Keytaon Thompson are the first UVA student-athletes to appear on FanJolt. The organizations have a mutual goal of creating a custom platform for all UVA student-athletes where they can monetize their NIL.

FanJolt, which launched in February, offers fans direct encounters with celebrities through live broadcasts, social media follows, and recorded videos. The app has a growing list of notable names in sports, music, entertainment, and pop culture.

“We are excited to partner with Cav Futures, elevating UVA’s elite athletes onto a global platform through interactive, live experiences,” said FanJolt Founder and CEO Trevor Short. “We look forward to creating in-app collaborations with our professional athletes and the student athletes as well as providing exciting opportunities for them to grow their fan-base and support causes and organizations they care about.”

“Opening the doors to platforms like FanJolt is the beginning of many lifetime branding opportunities that UVA student-athletes can capitalize on, and we look forward to helping FanJolt grow along with our Hoos,” said Lo Davis, executive director of Cav Futures. “Like all the opportunities that Cav Futures will offer to UVA student-athletes, FanJolt is something they can pursue in the short-term during their college years that will develop their long-term skills and support of community activism, marketplace education, career development, and professional networking opportunities.”

Similar to other NIL collectives nationwide, Cav Futures helps UVA athletes use their name, image, and likeness to be compensated for traditional endorsements, social media promotions, appearances and autographs, in-kind deals, and equity opportunities. Cav Futures can also help elite student-athletes hire marketing agents and other representatives or service providers to assist them. In addition, NIL is an opportunity to further strengthen and support the Charlottesville area and university through community and social activism.

Since July 2021, the NCAA has allowed college athletes to benefit from their name, image, and likeness in a manner consistent with applicable laws and regulations. Federal NIL legislation has been introduced but not yet passed by Congress. NCAA rules and penalties around avoiding “pay-for-play” scenarios and improper inducements to student-athletes tied to choosing to attend a particular university remain in effect.

FanJolt connects its users with top names in sports, business, music, social media, comedy, and pop culture.Aaron Judge, Annika Sörenstam, Ashanti, Chevy Chase, Daymond John, Jewel, Kevin O’Leary, Rafael Nadal, Taylor Heinicke are among stars on the app’s inaugural roster.

Organizations supported by FanJolt include the Rafa Nadal Foundation, Aaron Judge’s #AllRise Foundation, Patrick Mahomes’ 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, Tua Tagovailoa’s Tua Foundation, and Jewel’s Inspiring Children Foundation, with more to be identified by participating talent.
