UVA Women’s Basketball Team attends a CavFutures Event and Inks Partnership with CavFutures and CavFutures Foundation

This past Thursday, CavFutures hosted an event at the Boar’s Head in support of the Women’s Basketball Team, which featured a speech from Coach Mox and an interview with student-athletes Sam Brunelle and Kymora Johnson. The players spoke to their personal experiences as student-athletes and with NIL thus far. Sam, a co-captain on the team this year, described the inspiration she draws from working with local Charlottesville kids, and Kymora discussed her sponsorship with McDonald’s and the community work through the Ronald McDonald House that she has participated in. The event also promoted a shirt  designed by the WBB team, they collectively chose the word "unexpected" to represent their team this season. The event was a display of CavFutures' commitment to supporting women's sports at the University of Virginia, and comes on the heels of a historic partnership between CavFutures and the entire Women's Basketball team. With the basketball season rapidly approaching, excitement is building around this team. Led by coach Amaka ‘Mox’ Agugua-Hamilton, who joined as the team’s head coach last season, the team boasts several McDonald’s All-Americans and four and five star recruits. 

CavFutures extended an individual partnership offer to all 14 members of the University of Virginia’s women’s basketball team, in conjunction with CavFutures Foundation, its 501c3 non-profit arm. Through CavFutures, the team will have access to sponsorship opportunities, brand resources, and more. On the CavFutures Foundation side, they will connect with the community through service work, education, and mentorship. In addition to social posts and appearances, their responsibilities will include content creation for the CavFutures subscription service, CavClub, which provides access to exclusive content and events.

It is an exciting time for women’s sports, with attendance records being set across the country and women’s teams getting the recognition they have long deserved. It is also a time of rapid growth and change within the NIL space. For CavFutures, this is the perfect time to build sustainable opportunities for and partnerships with women’s teams at the University of Virginia. This Wednesday, November 1st, forward London Clarkson will be participating in a CavFutures radio show at the Good Sport Taproom at the Forum Hotel, which will be streamed on WINA.com for easy access. Her story and the work she is doing exemplifies the opportunities NIL can create for student-athletes.

The team’s season opener is against University of Maryland Eastern Shore on November 8th, and with the season starting there will be plenty of opportunities for them through CavFutures, who works to build an inclusive marketplace for UVA student-athletes to capitalize on their NIL. CavFutures continues to bring NIL opportunities to more University of Virginia (UVA) student-athletes, and this partnership is an exciting step in connecting women’s teams at the University of Virginia with local businesses.
